Safety Pages

Safety is a very important aspect of climbing. Here are some pages on climbing safety. Your belaying is also very important, you must be 100% on the ball when belaying. It is also good to know your basic first aid (A.B.C is something good to know) and how to escape the system. over the next few pages we will look at some of these.

Rescussitation Injuries Safe Belaying

Q: Do you know how to get hold of a mountain rescue team?

A: Probably not!

Many people are under the false impression that if you dial 999 and ask for mountain rescue you will be put through to a mountain rescue switchboard. Wrong.

The mountain rescue are deployed by the police. This means that if you require emergency mountain rescue attention you should dial 999 and ask for the police, once you are through to the police you should then ask for the mountain rescue. The same also applies to the coastguard.

Usually in our area you will be put through to the police upon request for mountain rescue as the operators in this area know this, however if you are calling off a mobile telephone you may not get a Cumbrian switchboard and many areas don't have mountain rescue so they will just tell you "there is no mountain rescue service" and you will be forced to hang up.

Disclaimer: You should be properly qualified to carry out the procedures on these pages. If you are not properly trained this treatment could prove fatal if administered upon false diagnosis or if administered incorrectly.
