Knots Section

You need knots all the time in climbing for a number of reasons.

Here are some knots and how to tie them. Click on an image to view a page about it and it's uses.

The figure of eight knot is used to tie yourself onto the rope. This diagram shows you how to tie it. Figure of 8
Creates two loops, useful when rigging. Double figure of 8 on a bight
The bowline is an alternative to this, often used by more experienced climbers. Bowline Knot
Clove hitch is used in the process of setting up a belay at the top. The Clove Hitch
The overhand knot is sometimes used to tie-off. The overhand Knot
The reef knot can be used to tie two ropes together. Be careful though because the knot does not go through the belay device. The Reef Knot
This knot is used for abseiling and belaying. Italian Hitch
Can be used with one or two ropes to create friction. Karabiner bake
This knot creates a loop and can take a three - way load. Alpine Butterfly
